First, believe more to Lem, Hawk, Julle, Poppe etc than me. They have many, many years of experience from elbil.
In my Expressen I was doing watering as follow because I like simple things:
1. Charging car in normal charge to full in the carage or similar place so that the temperature of the batteries rising at least over +15C. Then extra charger with some 5-7 amps some 4 to 6 hours because watering charge must be long so that chemistry of the electrolyte can rise fluid level highest possible. Charging time is important element for this, not the current. Cells which water concentration is highest rising the electrolyte lever highest with charging.
2. After 20 to 30 minutes watering hose to outlet valve and some collecting can other end. Inside of the hose I have put 6mm nut with some 8mm deep so it's open the valve and there is thread hole in the nut so water tank, 4L, is possible to put 1 meter higher than the top of the batteries. The nut is tightened by clamp outside of the hose.
Then water inlet hose from the water tank to the inlet valve, also there is a nut inside of it to open valve. I keep 4L water tank full by adding more water there if it start to empty because I want to do this show only once.
3. When water starts to come from outlet I take hose out of the water tank and blowing with mouth extras out from the hoses. Then there is no water left in the watering systems which can mild electrolyte later or get icing, especially small overpressure valve in every watering circuit.
Most of the batteries are spoiled by watering wrong way or no watering. The time when electrolyte level lower than plates top there is very hurry to watering the system because volume of the electrolyte is very small in this stage and only part of the plates are working. This means overheating an destroy the plates.
These batteries have not calendar age so they can work "forever". Only NiFe batteries can beat these by age. Electrolyte concentration includes lithium and some more chemicals which prevent carbon oxide keep out of the system. It's possible use pure mineral oil top of the electrolyte for this but in the central watering system it is difficult. Negative pole is oversized so that it can work over 3 times estimated age, meaning some 20 to 30 years of electric car using time with full capacity of the batteries. I have seen MRE100 batteries manufactured -92 which gives full capacity, over 100Ah:s with 45A discharge current. If the batteries are okay then they working to -45C without of significant capacity losses. I have driving at -26C with Berlingo and Expressen in everyday uses and not noticed shorter driving distance because of the batteries.
